Underdogs all the way

Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2008 and now Deccan Chargers in IPL 2009, the Indian Premier League is all about excitement and surprises. Well, I don’t want to boast, but I supported the winners in both the IPL’s. And I am quite surprised at myself for my selection.

Q who was supporting Bangalore Royal Challengers (purely because of Rahul Dravid) did many a victory dance, as the Deccan Chargers wickets fell. But who had the last laugh yeh?

That’s the beauty of Twenty20. One can never say. Who would have imagined the bottom two teams from IPL’s last season would actually be up against each other in the IPL 2009 finals! And what an exciting match it was.

Frankly, I wasn’t sure till the end, if at all I will get to do my victory dance that is. I was literally shocked when Gilchrist’s wicket fell in the very 1st over. After his performance in the semi finals, I was actually looking up to him for a smashing session. Besides there’s this friend of our’s who kept saying from semi finals that the match was fixed and RCB will eventually win. Thankfully, it wasn’t so!

I am talking as if I am getting a share of the prize money! Lol…well that’s what cricket has always been about..no? People rejoice as if it’s them who scored and won. It brings people together like never ever. The hi fives, the sweets and crackers are for those whom we consider as an extension to us. Somewhere, sometime we have also wanted to be in their shoes….representing our country and bringing laurels. Yeh? Atleast I have.

Another highlight of the IPL was Lalit Modi, yet another example of a young and successful entrepreneur. To be able to pull through an event of such a stature overseas and that too in the last minute call…hats off. Another reason why youngsters should be considered for high posts.

Anyways, coming back to cricket… its time already for ICC Twenty 20 Cricket World Cup 2009! Here’s the schedule FYR… but before that…if you are interested on Trivia’s on the IPL 2009 finalists…click here -> Deccan Chargers / Bangalore Royal Challengers.

Placement for the Super Eight stage is determined as follows:
The first two teams in each group are placed 1 or 2. They will retain this position for the Super Eight stage, irrespective of whether they finish first or second in their group, unless they are knocked out by the team 3 in their group.
