Voeckler in King of Mountains jersey

Thomas Voeckler, the spirited Frenchman on the Europcar team, who has an excellent history in the tour in the past, having won stages and also worn the Yellow Jersey, showed today that on form, he is a class act. The most aggressive rider today, in the later half of the race, he kept a relentless pace in the front, without ever thinking of his displays in the last 10 days, none of which were inspiring in the least, to dish out a painful but rewarding ride in the end.

Chavanel’s second coming

Chavanel’s second coming !!

The 7th Stage of the TdF was from Tournus to Station des Rousses a distance of 165.5km is the first of the mountain stage at this year’s TdF.  With the race now being passing through the hills & the valleys, the beauty of the country is definitely going to be showcased for the world. Though yours truly doubts if the riders have any time at all to even look around, as the race goes through climb after climb to its finish. The major surprise for the day was the second coming of the Frenchman Sylvain Chavanel into the Yellow jersey, as he pushed his small frame to the brink after breaking away from the main group & snatched back the Yellow jersey from Cancellara in pure poetic justice.

A route through Lourde !!

lourdes-a-stage-9-spot

The 9th Stage in this years Tour de France started off in St.Gaudens & ended in the town of Tarbes. This is a very untypical stage in Pyrenees as with stage the visit to Pyrenees & south France ends and though there are two mountain stages in the infamous Col d’Aspin & the Col du Tourmalet, there is over 70 kms of straight downhill stretch after the climb where the peleton can catch up with any breakaway.

Perpignan – the centre of the Universe!!

salvador-dali-1

Salvadore Dali, the surrealistic painter from Italy whose works are psychedelic to some, once claimed that when he was traveling in the city he suddenly had a vision and everything became clear to him and that Perpignan was the centre of the whole universe!!

Today, it becomes the centre of the whole cycling universe. For the Tour de France with its army of cyclists are descending on this with a population of around 1.5 lac people.
