Manx Missile fires as usual on Champs-Elysees

Just as I had predicted in my last post,Mark Cavendish of Team Sky won the last stage of this year’s tour on the Paris Champs-Élysées in his inevitable style, repeating the final sprint, just like what he had done in last three years!! In the bargain, he also became the first ever Road Race World Champion to win on the Paris Champs-Élysées. (Me thinks, he will make it to the Olympics Gold Medal also)

Voeckler in King of Mountains jersey

Thomas Voeckler, the spirited Frenchman on the Europcar team, who has an excellent history in the tour in the past, having won stages and also worn the Yellow Jersey, showed today that on form, he is a class act. The most aggressive rider today, in the later half of the race, he kept a relentless pace in the front, without ever thinking of his displays in the last 10 days, none of which were inspiring in the least, to dish out a painful but rewarding ride in the end.

While doing so, he also rode away from the reigning champion Cadel Evans in the race for the overall title.

Today a Frenchman, all of 22years, the youngest to be riding the tour this year, proved that with the right mix of bravado and gumption, matched with talent and the right backing, could bring dreams to reality. Thibaut Pinot, of FDJ-BigMat did this exactly, on the 8th stage of this year’s tour, with a brilliant ride, first as part of the breakaway and then as a soloist, as he rode away from the chasing riders.

With the first major climb of the Tour, a Cat 1, at the La Planchedes Belles Filles, the TdF 2012, has showcased, what bike racing is all about. Its not just the super speed on the wheels that count, but the determination & grit to keep pounding away on the roads, however steep they turn out and reaching the finish line is what the real man will have to do. To win the crown, he will have to do it in the shortest time frame possible, or leave the others behind.

Manx Missile makes it four for TdF 2010

The 18th Stage of the TdF was from Salies-de-Béarn to Bordeaux, a distance of 198km.  A flat stage after the last 4 days in the Pyrenees was a relief to all riders and the fact that there was almost no effort to chase the inevitable breakaway till the last kms, also showed the mindset of the riders, who just want to finish this tour on the streets of Paris on Sunday.
