Manx Missile fires as usual on Champs-Elysees

Just as I had predicted in my last post,Mark Cavendish of Team Sky won the last stage of this year’s tour on the Paris Champs-Élysées in his inevitable style, repeating the final sprint, just like what he had done in last three years!! In the bargain, he also became the first ever Road Race World Champion to win on the Paris Champs-Élysées. (Me thinks, he will make it to the Olympics Gold Medal also)

“Wiggins seals his crown with TT win@TdF 2012”

The new TdF champion

Just as I had predicted in my last post, about how Bradley Wiggins of Team Sky was going to win the last individual time trial (TT) of this year’s tour, Wiggins, blasted over the 53.5km course as if there was no tomorrow, and in the bargain, not only won his second stage of the tour, but also sealed his efforts to be the first ever British winner of the Tour de France!!

“Cavendish makes it for the 22nd time on the Tour @TdF 2012”

Cavendish wins for the 22nd time on the tour.

Just as I had predicted in my last post, about how Mark Cavendish of Team Sky was waiting for a chance to prove his form, he rode a blistering sprint in the final 600m and won the second stage in this year’s tour, his 22nd win in his career. He thus equals the record of the famous sprinter of yesteryears – André Darrigade, and also showed that his form for the Olympics is formidable.

“Valverde scores on the last Pyrenees stage @TdF 2012”

Valverde after winning

Just as I had predicted in my last post, about how I would bet on the breakaway winning today, Movistar rider Alejandro Valverde, rode a professional race, judging his opponents to a nicety, and winning atop the final climb to Peyragudes on Stage 17 of the 2012 tour.

“Now Voeckler repeats Bagneres de Luchon win @TdF 2012”

This is a guest post by Mr.Q, a professional quizmaster and an ardent Tour de France fan who is reporting his 4th tour

Voeckler in King Of Mountains jersey

This indefatigable Frenchman on the Europcar team, by the name of Thomas Voeckler, simply knows how to make it, in the month of July. At the age of 37, and perhaps riding his last professional tour, he rode like a champion that he is, and repeated a victory at the same place where he won two years back!!Just as I had predicted in my last post, about how the breakaway could win today, and named Voeckler amongst the most probable ones to do so, in the Queen’s Stage of the race today, Voeckler rode, what might be ultimately his final swansong ride to victory and what a spectacular ride it was! But knowing this sportsman, am not willing to place any bets, for all you know, he might just decide to continue next year too!!

“Luis Leon Sanchez wins Stage 14 – TdF 2012 from Limoux to Foix”

This is a guest post by Mr.Q, a professional quizmaster and an ardent Tour de France fan who is reporting his 4th tour

Sanchez at the finish

Over the last 5-6 stages, everyday, Luis Leon Sanchez of Rabobank, has been trying to make it into the breakaway or trying to create an escape in the final stages, somehow trying to reach the finishing stage alone and claim a stage for his team. Till Stage 13, he was unlucky, but today, he rode a very planned race and played his cards to perfection thus outwitting the breakaway and riding in to Foix, to claim his fourth stage win in the Tour.

Its “Millar time” at Annonay Davézieuxon Stage 12 – TdF 2012”

This is a guest post by Mr.Q, a professional quizmaster and an ardent Tour de France fan who is reporting his 4th tour

Millar time

For a team which has been at the receiving end right from the day the tour began, Garmin Sharp’s David Millar put in a stellar performance to win the long stage 12 of this year’s tour, and restore some sense of relief & belief to the team management & riders. His presence in the breakaway from the very beginning was notable and in the end it was victory for his taking as he outsprinted of Jean-Christophe Péraud of AG2R La Mondiale.

“Rolland rolls on to give Europcar another stage win at TdF 2012”

This is a guest post by Mr.Q, a professional quizmaster and an ardent Tour de France fan who is reporting his 4th tour

Rolland victorious

As predicted by yours truly in my last post, Pierre Rolland of Europcar was the rider, who chose to escape from the peleton today and steal a stage win, the second in this year’s TdF for the team. On a day when the climbs were taking their toll on every single rider, when 3 big names in professional cycling, Mark Renshaw & Bauke Mollema of Rabobank team and Lieuwe Westra of Vacansoleil-DCM, decided to call it quits at the tour this year, when no proper breakaway could materialize due to steep climbs, it was the young Frenchman, Rolland, who chose to shine away in today’s stage, despite a crash 25kms away from finish.

“Voeckler gives Europcar their 1st stage win at TdF 2012”

This is a guest post by Mr.Q, a professional quizmaster and an ardent Tour de France fan who is reporting his 4th tour

Voeckler in King of Mountains jersey

Thomas Voeckler, the spirited Frenchman on the Europcar team, who has an excellent history in the tour in the past, having won stages and also worn the Yellow Jersey, showed today that on form, he is a class act. The most aggressive rider today, in the later half of the race, he kept a relentless pace in the front, without ever thinking of his displays in the last 10 days, none of which were inspiring in the least, to dish out a painful but rewarding ride in the end.

“Superman Sagan does an Incredible Hulk at TdF 2012”

This is a guest post by Mr.Q, a professional quizmaster and an ardent Tour de France fan who is reporting his 4th tour

The Incredible Hulk salute by Sagan

On a day marred by a horrific crash 25km before the finish, it was Peter “Superman” Sagan of Liqigas-Cannondale, who once again stole the thunder at the finish line with an incredible burst of speed and an impersonation of the Incredible Hunk!!

The crash

The 6throad Stage of the 99th Tour de France started of from Epernay to Metz, a distance of 210kms, with all the 195 riders who finished yesterday.
