About France

Good food, great wine, beautiful beaches, enchanting mountains, chic fashion, bizarre fashion, invigorating art and culture, great monuments, clean roads, few people :) well that’s France for you.

France can either intimidate you or embrace you depending on how you take it. People here are friendly unlike many contradictory beliefs. A fact that many of us don’t know but was revealed to me by a local during my visit to France was, in his very own words “ Not that we are snooty and don’t want to help the tourists by speaking in English; its just that we feel our English isn’t good enough and we are anxious that we might misguide the tourist”!! Now that gives a whole new perspective to the belief; doesn’t it?    I had a ball in France be it be Montpellier, Bourg St Maurice, Nice, Paris, Mt Ventoux, Lyon…etc. Btw Monaco and Andorra which border France are also worth a visit.

INDIA ROCKS!!!

Recounted down below are my experiences & readings about my travel in Europe for the last 2 months.

People in Europe generally get excited the moment they get to know you are an Indian. The feeling is absolutely amazing. They have a volley of questions to throw at you about India, the culture, people, food, way of life and but of course the highly exposed “Slumdog Millionaire” and their general reaction towards the movie.

Our travel around mostly the southern France during Tour de France entailed lots of walking around the city. We walked many cobbled streets lined with roadside cafes, we saw many a nice manicured and flowery medians, weekly markets selling fruits, vegetables, flowers and more. Btw, I feel that, the best way to learn and get a feel of the place you visit is not by only visiting the touristy places but to walk around the city checking what the locals do, where the locals go.

Doubting thomases, Lance is rising…

The 3rd Stage is set from Marseille to a tourist town of La Grand Motte. Marseille is a very scenic place with lots of history going back to the 11th century. There are many a Old castle which are being caught beautifully by the race team on television which is

being beamed worldwide.

We left Nice after 2 days of stay there and we already feel like having been here for a long time., maybe the old part of the town that we stayed in made us feel so!!

A Nice stage for the tour…

This part of South France where the race is now on, is usually known more for the sun & beaches, for the holiday spots & the jetset glitterati who sail around on their yachts – Monaco, Nice, Antibes, Cannes…etc.

Having seen the flag off at Monaco, we decided to park ourselves somewhere on the route today to catch the race, and did we have a wonderful time?? Right from the morning, it was very hot and though we don’t sweat very much here, the climate makes you slightly uncomfortable, particularly, if you are inclined to walk around in the sun as we were.

Monaco turns yellow!!

Since finding a place to stay was being very expensive ( had visions of coming back home after 2 days if we were to stay at a reasonable Hotel in the city!!!), we had found a place at Nice to stay. Nice to Monaco is just around 20 minutes by train. And when we reached the station in the morning is when we found that the entire France & the Tour fans like us had all thought the same way!! So with over 20,000 people trying to get into Monaco on trains – it was just like Mumbai sub-urban days. And though there is no pushing & shoving, it was just like rush hour at Churchgate.

Do good unto others what you want others do unto you

niceA nice story ..

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay,for his hungry stomach, decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. Onthe way through school, he found he had only one thin dime left and he was very hungry.

However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door.Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water. The woman thought he looked hungry, so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, “How much do I owe you?” “You don’t owe me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught us,never to accept pay for a kindness.” He said…”Then I thank you from my heart.”
