With the first major climb of the Tour, a Cat 1, at the La Planchedes Belles Filles, the TdF 2012, has showcased, what bike racing is all about. Its not just the super speed on the wheels that count, but the determination & grit to keep pounding away on the roads, however steep they turn out and reaching the finish line is what the real man will have to do. On the streets of Liege, as the prologue of the 99th Tour de France started on time, it was time for the best of the cyclists in the professional circuit to show case the kind of form they were all bringing in, into the tour. With 198 cyclists starting the tour, the crowds had to wait for a few hours before the business end of the tour started, and the man who turned it on was the 197th rider, going by the name of a certain Fabian “Spartacus” Cancellara. Come July every year, an armada of cycling fans from across the globe, focus their attention on France, for its Tour de France (TdF) time. The biggest annual event on a global scale is in its 99th year and this year we will see a June30th start for what will be another epic saga enacted over 3500km of France and neighboring countries. Chavanel’s second coming

Chavanel’s second coming !!

The 7th Stage of the TdF was from Tournus to Station des Rousses a distance of 165.5km is the first of the mountain stage at this year’s TdF. With the race now being passing through the hills & the valleys, the beauty of the country is definitely going to be showcased for the world. Though yours truly doubts if the riders have any time at all to even look around, as the race goes through climb after climb to its finish. The major surprise for the day was the second coming of the Frenchman Sylvain Chavanel into the Yellow jersey, as he pushed his small frame to the brink after breaking away from the main group & snatched back the Yellow jersey from Cancellara in pure poetic justice. Pyrenees here come the riders!!

As we head from Barcelona to Andorra, where the Stage 7 ends, the bus crosses into Andorra almost 2 hours into the journey & the Pyrenees in its glory is there all around for everyone to see. There are no trains & flights to Andorra, just the road that too just the 2 lanes!!
