Munnar

Munnar Pic credit: Pooja Shri

After a soulfully invigorating experience at larger than life temples at Srirangam & Madurai our visit to Munnar was like an added benediction to our tired minds and soul. Perhaps the reason why Munnar remains the most sought after destination in Kerala.

The drive was nice till we realized that our travel agent had failed to arrange the permit required to cross the border; as a result we had to take a detour and go all the way to Kumali and get the permit.Moral of the story – if you are traveling via road and require crossing state borders then do check on the paperwork required to avoid unnecessary hassles. But then me thinks, any trip is not complete without such surprises and adventures!

Road Trip

The advantages of a road trip are that it allows you to travel at your pace exploring places enroute. Pooja Shri is a marketing professional, currently on a sabbatical pursuing her creative interests. When she is not busy making Tanjore paintings or murals, she indulges in cooking and traveling with her better half.  Here she shares her road trip experience from Chennai to Munnar.

A Ski Holiday in Mayrhofen

Ski holidays are a popular way for Europeans to relax and enjoy some time in the great outdoors. Central Europe is clustered with ski resorts, with France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria being the most popular destinations. One of the best places to visit is Mayrhofen – a resort that has built a reputation as fun and friendly place that is great for skiing.

Zambia

Unearth the real Africa on a Zambia Safari!

Described by many as the ‘real Africa’,  Zambia is a country of wide open spaces rich in wildlife with magnificent forests, wild rivers, sweeping plains and impressive waterfalls. A safari to Zambia offers exceptional game viewing opportunities throughout the numerous national parks, game reserves, famous walking safaris and night drives. To explore the wilderness and rugged beauty of this spectacular country is to escape from commercialisation, overcrowding and novelty to rediscover the pure thrill of travel.

Travelling to Italy

Discover the beauty of Italy on a tailor made holiday!

The beauty of a luxury tailor made holiday is that you can decide exactly where, when and how long you want to stay at a particular destination. This works particularly well if you want to explore different areas of a country, or more than one country. Tailor made holidays, by the way cater specifically to ones individual requirements so one can get exactly what one wants to experience.

Cherai

There are so many options one has, to get away from the clamor and clatter of busy Kochi (Cochin). One such place where I retreat is Cherai. About 30 kms from the commercial capital of Kerala – Kochi, Cherai energizes your tired mind with beautiful and picturesque landscape. The pristine sprawling beach, charming lagoons, alluring backwaters, panoply of coconut trees and the gorgeous paddy fields – simply takes your breath away. Such views are the best companion one can have in addition to a book and some music, to refresh your body and soul!

Travel India

Indian flag

India, a country with over a billion population; India, a secular country with co-existing multiple religions; India, a land of festivals and vibrant colors; India, a country with over 200 languages and dialects; India, full of the traffic congestion; India; the slums from the movie Slumdog millionaire!; India, beautiful and warm…..etc. I can go on forever.

People across the world have their own opinions about India; formed through books, movies or from travel. During my travels around Europe & Asia, I met lots of people who all had their own special stories to tell me; who kept me amused with their ideas about India.

Shopping in Singapore

Another highlight of my trip to Singapore was shopping. One would wonder how much can one shop in an expensive country like Singapore. Here, I would like to thank our hosts in Singapore, Naveena and Sarath. Not only did they help and guide us with local information but also gave us company to most of these shopping arcades. You need to check what offers are available to get the best deals.

If someone asks me about the most memorable thing about my visit to Singapore; then it has to be my day at Universal Studio, hands down! As evident from its name, Universal Studios is a movie theme park with characters from movies like Shrek, Jurassic Park, Madagascar, Mummy Returns,… etc bringing forth a thrilling experience translating the silver screen to life.

Bangkok and Phuket (Final part)

Having filled our bags with bargains, we left for Phuket the same day. On landing in Phuket, we booked the PhiPhi Island tour for the next day. It is highly recommended that one book such a tour because of two reasons. Firstly, PhiPhi Island is accessible only by ferries and travellers who are not a part of such packages are charged more. Secondly, passengers who book a tour at the airport are given a free shuttle to their hotels. Public transport is nonexistent and taxis are very expensive. Our hotel, Ibis Kata was an hour’s drive from the airport. Had we not booked the tour for about 1000 baht, we would have spent 800 baht just for the taxi back to the hotel! Click for details on Ibis Kata
