Guilty pleasures

320px-smirc-winksvg

Now who wants to be perfect? We all do things that we get innate pleasure from but are either too embarrassed about our tastes or are not too comfortable disclosing our lowbrows. But who cares! It’s your life and you live it just once….

So today I decided to jot down few of the things I find intrinsic happiness in and I had absolute fun doing so….

  1. I can indulge on a chocolate cake / pastry or doughnuts on a full stomach
  2. I love buying cheap clothes from Lajpat Nagar, Delhi more than any branded stuff

You are here

urhere
I am forgetting the author, but I recently read a book called ‘You are here’ which was basically a story of a girl and instances from her life. A simple read; no big deal.

Anyways, how things would have got simple and clearer just if we were able to see that tiny dot on the map of life. Well, no regrets but there are times I do feel if I could have taken a different course. If things would have been different, had I taken a different decision? I am sure it is an universal issue and most of us face the same dilemma as I at times face; just that the phrase “No regrets” sounds fancier :)

Content or crap?

What drives viewership these days? I sometimes really wonder. Is it the content or just anything in the name of entertainment?

I will not really vouch for content since you can count them with your fingers some good number of programs and the rest you have to just thrown them all out of the window.

TwitGeek! What will these folks (or web developers) think of next?

I was quite amused to come across this site, which clearly states: TwittGeek is a Twitter application that automatically follows 200 targeted people based on keywords you write!

I haven’t tried it out though, as there’s a reason for me in being selective. I’ve basically decided only to follow web sites/industry associations that are of interest — or ‘of a technical nature’ — to me!

When Confidence becomes Overconfidence

overconfidence

  • When you are in a state of mind where you think all decisions you take cannot be wrong
  • When you let complacency enter your style of work and attitude
  • When you start to refuse to listen
  • When you refute all justified objections
  • When you spring to object on being criticized

That’s the time you need to realize probably you are or are on the brink of getting overconfident. You might think that you are the most open minded person but in reality it might not be so; because in your mind you have already stopped looking and listening for options.

Senseless advertising

hrithikHey, kaha na pyar hai, main hoon aapka duggu….blah blah blah. What the hell or rather who the hell has put their thoughts behind the ongoing Reliance ads? I simply fail to see the objective. Do you? I mean by making Hrithik Roshan thank the whole world, what actually is Reliance Telecom trying to get at? Who is the target customer…. The existing ones or are they talking to potential customers? During a chat my friend opined that the idea behind this ad was to encourage people to pick their phones and talk more often to people without hesitation! Hmm that might be possible. But that’s not how it came across to many of us. The ad story could have been lined better. But for the fresh opinion, I had out rightly written this ad off.

My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!
The Child is father of the Man;
I could wish my days to be
Bound each to each by natural piety

Is crying a sign of weakness?

cry

I don’t think so. When Roger Federer cried recently at the French open, it was because he was ecstatic over his win. It was the biggest win according to him as he played under tremendous pressure. So he got emotional. So what! He cried when he lost to Nadal. Big deal! Only he would know the feeling to loose closer to a win.

I heard from my friend who in turn was quoting her friend that Federer should be bought a pink frock! Common grow up lady! There is nothing wrong in being open about your feelings. I find him rather cute.

What is Yola?

I came across a very interesting article on TechNewsWorld, titled: How to build a small business web site… part 9! Very interested, to know more, I proceeded to read it. Well, there are eight other parts to this article, all linked very nicely from this page.

However, I’d like to draw the attention of those small businesses who don’t have a web site or web presence yet, to Yola, formerly, SynthaSite.

Your Planet Needs You! UNite to Combat Climate Change

globe

That’s the theme for this year’s World Environment Day (WED) which is hosted during the week of June 5. This day actually brings me fond memories of the educational activities I planned during my stint at SunTechnics India (Bangalore). Planting sapling, sessions on climatic change and importance of energy conservation at schools, fun activities at malls…hmm. The subject had become close to my heart like never was. I have been writing about global warming, relevance of usage of renewable source of energy in the current scenario, tips for conserving energy etc in my earlier blog posts.
